Gene Lininger '69

Gene Lininger '69Gene Lininger, Class of 1969, earned a total of ten of twelve possible varsity letters during his career at Badger High School. He was a three-year letter winner in both football and wrestling. 

On the gridiron, Gene was named Team Tri-Captain, Team MVP and selected to the All-Conference team as a running back during his senior year. Although Gene enjoyed success in football and wrestling, it was track that brought him accolades. 

As a sophomore, Gene was a key member of the 1967 Conference Champion track team, winning the 100-yard dash, 220-yard dash and the high jump. He was also a sectional champion in the 100-yard dash and high jump that year and finished 5th at the state meet in the 100-yard dash. During his junior year, Gene was sectional champion in the 220-yard dash and finished 2nd in the 100-yard dash. He advanced to the state meet and was crowned state champion in the 100-yard dash and runner-up in the 220-yard dash. As a senior, he repeated as conference champion in the 100-yard dash and still holds the Badger High School record in the 100-yard dash with a time of 10.1 seconds in which he set in 1968.

Inducted into the Badger Athletic Wall of Fame in 2001.
