Three students from France came to Badger and stayed with Badger families who have students taking French in Mrs. Busch's classes. They stayed for three weeks, shadowing their host students and friends in order to experience the great variety of courses that an American high school offers.
They were part of a larger group from a town near Lyon, France, from a school called Lycée Saint Marc. Other French students stayed in the greater Chicago and Milwaukee area. The French teenagers said that they loved the experience and wished they could stay much longer! It was a great experience for the American students as well, getting to experience the French culture firsthand from kids their own age.
Mrs. Busch organized the program along with an organization named Language and Friendship which has ties to French student travel organizations. Mrs. Busch began by asking students in her French classes if they would be interested in hosting a French teenager for three weeks. Interested families were interviewed and screened, then matched with a French teenager who had similar interests and goals for the family stay.
It is something that I organize each year for the month of February.
There are plans to continue the program.
