Badger FCCLA Advisor to Receive National AwardsFamily, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will recognize Badger FCCLA Advisor Deanna Giovingo as a 2019 Master Adviser Award recipient and the 2019 National Spirit of Advising Award for her continued work with Badger students in the chapter.

Giovingo was nominated for these awards at the State level by Badger Principal Russ Tronsen. “Mrs. Giovingo is a dedicated educator and an exemplary Adviser leading our FCCLA Chapter,” Tronsen stated. She was presented with the accolades by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction FCCLA Advisor, Diane Ryberg, at the recent FCCLA Leadership Conference held in Wisconsin Dells from April 8-10. Her application was then moved to the national level, which was approved.

As stated in a letter from Ashley Nelson, FCCLA Professional Development Manager, the Master Adviser Award winners must advise an affiliated chapter for a minimum of three years, promoting the organization, operating an integrated chapter with a balanced program of work, facilitating youth-centered activities, and keeping abreast of new happenings within the organization. Of over 6,000 chapters in the nation, only 92 advisers will be recognized at the National Leadership this summer in Anaheim, CA.

The Spirit of Advising Award recognizes those chapter advisers who are constantly faithful, often quietly working behind the scenes to ensure the success of their students. They are advisers whose good humor, flexibility and skill form the foundation of FCCLA at the local and state levels, according to the award announcement.

Under Giovingo, Badger FCCLA students have consistently placed among the best in Wisconsin at competition, earning them spots at the National Leadership Conference and STAR Event Competition for their projects in National Programs In Action: Belts to Bones- Seatbelt Safety, Cross Roads,  Road Safety Assessment; Advocacy: Babysitting 101; Chapter Service Project Portfolio- 4'9" It's Booster Time; Chapter Service Project Display: Financial Citizen-JA BizTown and Chapter In Review: LG Badger Inspired. These awards recognize the impact these projects have made on the local community. Other qualifying projects showcased skills that student will use in the workplace. These projects were in areas of Interior Design and Fashion Construction.

Giovingo has seen a lot of student transformations from their participation in FCCLA through the years. "It's been a pleasure working with the students and seeing their growth," she said.

“As a former Family and Consumer Science Educator and FCCLA adviser, I know what a true distinction this honor bestows,” said Tronsen. “It is awarded to only the best of the best.  Badger is extremely proud of Mrs. Giovingo.”
