Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship Certificates AwardedNOVEMBER 30, 2017 – Three Badger High School 2017 graduates earned the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Youth Apprenticeship Level 1 Certificates of Achievement for their participation in Work-based Learning.

Ulises Escobar earned his certificate in Hospitality, Lodging & Tourism. His school-based learning was through the Badger Culinary Department and his employment was at Oakfire Pizza in Lake Geneva. Escobar completed a total of 900 hours of work and completed the Food & Beverage – Dining Area Unit and Food & Beverage – Kitchen Area units, in addition to Core Skills and Safety & Security.

Both Georgia Irwin and Natalie Wiess earned certificates in Health Services. Irwin completed 665.5 hours at Golden Years, Walworth, where she completed Core Skills, Safety & Security and Nursing Assistant Units. Wiess worked 559.25 hours at Geneva Lake Manor, Lake Geneva, and completed the same units. These students also earned their Nursing Assistant licenses after completing Gateway Technical College’s 3 credit Nursing Assistant Basic class. They also were enrolled in Medical Terminology earning an additional 3 Gateway credits.

Youth Apprenticeship links what students learn in their classroom to industry skills. The DWD has developed these programs to help build Wisconsin’s skilled workforce in areas that are considered high wage, high demand or high skill.
