NHS - National Honor Society

National Honor Society

The Badger Chapter of the National Honor Society includes juniors and seniors who excel in the areas of leadership, scholarship, character, and service. The application process begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends the Friday after Semester 1 final exams. In order to qualify for  membership, a student must be a sophomore or junior with a minimum cumulative 3.6 GPA. Interested students will complete an application that involves both objective demographic information and subjective replies to short answer questions on the applicant's scholarship, service, leadership, and character;  it also includes three letters of recommendation from appropriate parties. Applications will be read during the first four weeks of Quarter 3 by the Faculty Council. Applicants will be advised over Spring Break if they have been accepted into the organization. A formal induction ceremony is held in May or June, based on calendar availability. ****It should be noted that this group has up to twice monthly required meetings, participates in numerous school events, requires individual service projects, and works extensively as a larger body on one or more community service projects each year. It should be seen as a year-long activity of considerable commitment.

2020-2021 Selection Process

It is time for the National Honor Society to begin its selection process for the 2020-2021 school year. All sophomores and juniors with a 3.6 cumulative GPA or higher are invited to apply.

NHS is a service organization that focuses on fostering a strong devotion to academics, service, character, and leadership. If selected, students will be expected to commit at least five hours a month to completing service hours, plus participate in group events on a monthly basis, and attend 1-2 required meetings per month. STUDENTS SHOULD CONSIDER CAREFULLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO DEVOTE TO THIS ORGANIZATION BEFORE APPLYING!

Students should reference their school email from Ms. Shotliff on December 5th for the NHS Application. Should they choose to apply, these are the steps.
  1. Solicit 3 letters of recommendation. (Rules for these are on the application document itself.)
  2. Make a copy of the questionnaire in their Google Drive and complete it.
  3. Collect their letters of recommendation. These must be documents with signatures from the writers to attest to their veracity. Only one letter may be from a Badger High School employee.
  4. Visit Room 603 and see Mrs. Lazzaroni in our Copy Room. They should ask her to please scan their letters of recommendation and send them to Ms. Shotliff via email.  NO PAPER COPIES ACCEPTED!
  5. Submit their questionnaire attachments to [email protected]wi.us by January 24th.  NO PAPER COPIES ACCEPTED!

The deadline to submit this application is January 24th. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS DEADLINE!!! One of the things that NHS adheres to is keeping our obligations, and since students have over a month to apply, there is no reason why an application should be late.

Students should direct questions to Ms. Shotliff in Room 704.
